It seems Ravi Bopara does not exist in the future plans of England.

After the series against Australia, the all rounder has now been overlooked for the UAE tour as well.

His name was missing from both the limited-over squads that the selectors announced yesterday for the Pakistan games.

It was being thought that Bopara had a good chance of making the squad for his ability to tackle the spin well and also, for his slow seam bowling which generally happens to be of good effect on the dusty pitches.

There were talks of the Premier English all rounder Ben Stokes having played a lot of Cricket in the summer and needing some rest and thus, in that scenario, Bopara’s recall was very much likely.

But, probably the selectors felt that going back to Bopara would be a backward step and would be in contrast to their mission of building a young team keeping the big ICC tournaments of future in mind.

However, if seen age wise, Bopara is not that old. He celebrated only his 30th birthday earlier this year. So, there must be a lot of limited-over Cricket still left  in his body and if he works hard on his fitness, there is no reason why he can’t keep himself in proper shape till the next World Cup.Read More »

Comments Off on Ravi Bopara’s international career is over now

Many believe Ravi Bopara’s international career is over now with him not being even in the limited-over plans of England anymore.

But, the Essex man himself has not given up on it at all.

According to the all rounder, as long as he is active in the game, his aspirations will always be to win an England recall.

Bopara actually turned out to be one of the scapegoats for England’s below par show in the One Day International World Cup played Down Under earlier this year.

He was not the worst performer in his team by any means, but, he lost his place post the showpiece competition.

And, now, his comeback seems to be going to take some time as the young chaps coming in performed pretty well in the New Zealand series which England won 3-2.

When asked what the main difference between the England of World Cup and this New England has been, Bopara said, “It’s just the mindset. There has been more clarity in the minds of the players now. They are pretty certain what kind of approach they are supposed to show out there. It was probably missing when we were in Australia/New Zealand at the start of the year.”Read More »

Stuart Broad is clearly not being the same sort of ferocious fast bowler

Comments Off on Stuart Broad is clearly not being the same sort of ferocious fast bowler

After his operation, Stuart Broad is clearly not being the same sort of ferocious fast bowler which he is known to be, but, bowling is not the main concern for him at the moment.

It’s his batting which he needs to pay special attention to because it has hit the bottommost point in the recent times and that day is not far off when he would be asked to bat below Jimmy Anderson in the batting order.

Broad actually has got good batting skills. It’s not as if he is a blind hitter or something. He has shown at times in his career that he can play proper Cricket with the bat and that too for long periods of time.

He has had a score of more than 150 in test match Cricket, but, off late, the fast bowlers have targeted him with the short stuff and he has not been able to respond to it in the best possible manner.

He has been caught hooking the ball on numerous occasions and a couple of times, has been hit on the body as well.Read More »

Comments Off on Ravi Bopara’s bowling has come a long way

Ravi Bopara’s bowling has come a long way since the time he had first announced himself on the international scene.

He is not just a part timer any more. He does a job for his captain in all the formats.

He can actually be quite dangerous if the wicket is a little sluggish and the ball is holding a little bit.

In the ongoing IPL, he has shown that a couple of times. The other night versus the Rajasthan Royals, the game had almost gone out of the hands of the Sunrisers when as a last throw of the dice, the captain David Warner brought in Bopara and the Essex all rounder made the game interesting.

He bowled a very economical spell and also got some of the opposition’s key players dismissed.

The Sunrisers finished losing the game, but, Bopara’s spell definitely gave them a bit of a chance.

Change in pace is not the only thing that Bopara does; he wobbles the ball slightly as well. A bit of inward movement, a straighter delivery in between, some cross seam stuff, he just keeps on doing something and being a batsman himself, he reads the minds of the batsmen very well.Read More »
