The new Test captain of the English team Joe Root is hoping to lead the team out in the field excellently.
Root is hoping that his assistant Ben Stokes can learn some tricks and get tips form the dressing room when he features in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Ashes series is over six months away but Root and Stokes seem to be planning ahead. Funny enough many would not observe this as the spotlight would be shone on Australian players after the ill-tempered Border-Gavaskar series.
Last year Ravichandran Ashwin, who is now injured, barely bowled but his leg spin was able to do the job. This time around at the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) franchise, Steve Smith would likely keep a little distance after the series for dressing room advantage safety.
RPS signed Stokes for AUS$2.8 million this year. The England player would share the dressing room with Smith, and other Ashes rivals like Adam Zampa, Dan Christian, and Usman Khawaja. Smith would likely be the target of information siphoning, being the world’s revered Test batsman.
“Smith has become one of the best players in the world. In fact, he is ranked as the best player in the world and is just racking up the runs for fun. So the one thing Stokesy can do for us is make sure he finds a little weakness in Steve Smith’s armoury for us when we go down in Australia,” Root said.Read More »
Shakib al Hasan, the captain of the Dhaka Dynamites has admitted that he was a great admirers of the Indian Cricket Team.
Shakib had said this after his team came off with a win in the final of the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 2016-17 season played on Friday at the Sher-e- Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, against the Rajshahi Kings.
The captain was delighted at their claiming of the season trophy, and attributed the reason for their success both throughout the whole tournament and in the final, to their ability to cooperate well enough and play together as a team.
Speaking in a post-match press conference on Friday, Shakib had also expressed his gratitude to the coach of the team, Khaled Mahmud, who he believes his presence went a long way to inspire and motivate the team to their final success.
Shakib also did not fail to mention the senior players whom he believed helped them a lot all through the journey to the final game.
The player of the final was given to Sri Lankan legend, Kumar Sangakkara, who praised the team culture, while noting that the entire tournament was one he really enjoyed.Read More »
Alastair Cook remained away from the ground in the third session of the third day’s play of the third test match against Sri Lanka which is going on at Lord’s.
Cook went to field at the silly point position just minutes before the tea break and because he wanted to save time for an extra over to be completed in the session, he did not opt to call for the shin pads or any sort of protection.
But, to his bad luck, he was hit right on the unprotected area below the knee on the first ball itself. At the time he was hit though, he reacted as if it did not hurt him much as he gave a thumbs-up to the batsman.
However, as the over ended and he needed to go to the other end to take his fielding position, he started hobbling. He made it through to the tea somehow, but, didn’t return to the ground after that and his deputy Joe Root oversaw the team’s operations.
Cook didn’t open either for England in the second innings after Sri Lanka was bowled out and it was Nick Compton instead who paired Alex Hales to face the new ball.
However, after the stumps, the news came through that there was no breakage or any such thing at the injury spot and Cook would be batting on the 4th day if needed.Read More »
Alastair Cook is quite proud that he managed to carry himself gracefully as England test captain when the chips were down and his aim now is to be consistent with his young team and attain some success on foreign soil.
The testing times await Cook, who has already won two Ashes series as captain, in the coming months.
There is a test series coming up in United Arab Emirates where none of the teams has been able to beat Pakistan in the last 6 years and it would be followed by the tour of South Africa which is also an incredibly difficult place to play test Cricket.
According to Cook, since the Ashes disaster in 2013-14 in Australia where the Three Lions lost 0-5, plenty of new players have made their way into the side and the way they have matured, it’s fantastic to see that as a captain.
Speaking before departing for Emirates, Cook said, “There are some highly talented blokes in the squad at the moment and the maturity that they have shown this summer; you have to give them a lot of credit.”Read More »
Many believe Ravi Bopara’s international career is over now with him not being even in the limited-over plans of England anymore.
But, the Essex man himself has not given up on it at all.
According to the all rounder, as long as he is active in the game, his aspirations will always be to win an England recall.
Bopara actually turned out to be one of the scapegoats for England’s below par show in the One Day International World Cup played Down Under earlier this year.
He was not the worst performer in his team by any means, but, he lost his place post the showpiece competition.
And, now, his comeback seems to be going to take some time as the young chaps coming in performed pretty well in the New Zealand series which England won 3-2.
When asked what the main difference between the England of World Cup and this New England has been, Bopara said, “It’s just the mindset. There has been more clarity in the minds of the players now. They are pretty certain what kind of approach they are supposed to show out there. It was probably missing when we were in Australia/New Zealand at the start of the year.”Read More »
After his operation, Stuart Broad is clearly not being the same sort of ferocious fast bowler which he is known to be, but, bowling is not the main concern for him at the moment.
It’s his batting which he needs to pay special attention to because it has hit the bottommost point in the recent times and that day is not far off when he would be asked to bat below Jimmy Anderson in the batting order.
Broad actually has got good batting skills. It’s not as if he is a blind hitter or something. He has shown at times in his career that he can play proper Cricket with the bat and that too for long periods of time.
He has had a score of more than 150 in test match Cricket, but, off late, the fast bowlers have targeted him with the short stuff and he has not been able to respond to it in the best possible manner.
He has been caught hooking the ball on numerous occasions and a couple of times, has been hit on the body as well.Read More »
